Open by design. Held in common.
Structured World is a non-profit association that develops, promotes and supports open source software, open data standards and open digital infrastructure, for the benefit of society.
structured.world
Our first programme is structured.world: open, evidence-backed knowledge about products and the things they are made of. Described once, usable by anyone: manufacturers, marketplaces, regulators, repairers, recyclers. Every fact carries its source and says when it applies.
The data will be published under open licences, and the statute of the association makes that a commitment rather than a policy.
The statute
An open data commons is only as trustworthy as the body that holds it. Our statute is public, and the rules that protect the mission are written into it: the open licensing principles, the ban on distributing income to members, the rule that the association's intellectual property is assigned to no one without two thirds of the voting members, and the destination of its assets if it is ever dissolved. Changing the core of the mission takes four fifths of all voting members.
